BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – Amid the roving minstrels and the cries of “Wassail, wassail,” the public is invited to begin the Christmas season by attending the inaugural Lake Michigan College Fine and Performing Arts Madrigal Feast. Dates for the festivities are December 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. in room F-117 of the Mendel Center.
The event will recreate all the pomp and charm of a Renaissance England holiday celebration, featuring royal banquet fare, ornate costuming, festive music, and lighthearted entertainment. The banquet will be announced with a brass fanfare, and the menu will include Wassail (a spicy apple cider), Letuse Sallade, Tendre Roaste Fowle and Vegtables, Mashed Botata and Gravee, Breadd, and Christesmesse Puddyng.
The feast also features a variety of instrumental ensembles, soloists, vocal ensembles, actors and dancers, and will include some special guests. According to Dan Hendrickson, director of music at LMC, audience members will be treated to a feast for the eyes, ears, and mouth.
Included in costume in the Royal Court for the December 6 performance are LMC President Dr. Robert Harrison and his daughter Hannah. The December 7 performance will include LMC Vice President of Instruction Dr. Sarah Dempsey and Chris Spradlin, Dean of Arts and Sciences.
The costumer for the Madrigal Feast is Penny Murphy, a longtime costumer for the Theatre Department at LMC.
