Fine Arts Concert Presented by the Lake Michigan College Music Department

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI –The Lake Michigan College Chamber Players and Jazz Band will present their annual Fine Arts Concert on Friday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hanson Theater. The Fine Arts Concert features the LMC Chamber Players, directed by Christina Gibson, and the Jazz Band, directed by Stephen Slabaugh.

The LMC Chamber Players will perform “March and Fantasia on the Dargason” from Second Suite in F for Military Band by Gustav Holst; “Dance of the Mirlitons,” “Arabian Dance” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from the Nutcracker by. P.I. Tchaikowsky; and Suite of Carols by Leroy Anderson. The Suite of Carols includes “Angels In Our Fields,” “O Sanctissima,” “O Come, O Come Emanuel,” “O Come Little Children,” “Coventry Carol,” and “Patapan.”

The Jazz Band will perform selections from the landmark 1957 Miles Davis album Birth of the Cool including “Birth of the Cool Theme” by Gil Evans, “Venus de Milo” by Gerry Mulligan, “Moon Dreams” by Chummy MacGregor and Johnny Mercer, and “Boplicity” by Miles Davis and Gil Evans. Members of the Jazz Band will perform the original solos from the 1949 recording session.

The Hanson Theatre is located in the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center for Arts and Technology on the Napier Avenue Campus, 2755 East Napier Avenue, one mile east of I-94. Tickets are $7 for general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens, and $4 for groups of 20 or more. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Box Office at (269) 927-1221 Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased at the door one hour prior to performance.
