Lake Michigan College Women’s Basketball Team Ranked #2 in Pre-season National Poll

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – The Lake Michigan College Red Hawks women’s basketball team is ranked #2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national Division II pre-season poll. This is the highest pre-season ranking for the women’s basketball team in the program’s history.

“We have the ability to compete at a high level this year with three returning starters to provide strong leadership and a roster that includes other key returning sophomores and many talented freshmen from across the region,” stated LMC women’s basketball coach and athletic director Jason Cooper. “We know that we will have to work hard, stay focused, and develop the entire team for us to reach our goal of returning to the national tournament.”

The team ended the 2011-12 season with a 30-5 record, and was the runner-up in the NJCAA National Championship game. Five players from that team are retuning for the Red Hawks this season.

The team’s first regular season game is scheduled for Saturday, November 3, against Lake Land College, who is ranked #11 in the nation. It is a home game with tip off at 1 p.m.
