February Community Education Classes at Lake Michigan College Bertrand Crossing Campus

Tones & Rhythms, Serving on a Board, Growing Hydroponic and Organic, Home Energy Savings Workshop and Facebook Webinar Presented

NILES, MI – Lake Michigan College’s Bertrand Crossing Campus is offering several Community Education classes in February. The following is a sampling of classes offered. The full schedule of classes at all LMC campuses is available at www.lakemichigancollege.edu/ce.

Intro to Tones & Rhythms Pre-School Style
This fun, exciting and innovative music and movement class designed for children birth through five years will nurture a child’s musical ability. The 45-minute classes offers the opportunity for parent and child to creatively explore a variety of musical ideas and possibilities while encouraging genuine enthusiasm for music during the child’s vital time of development. Parents also play an important role in this fun and interactive class, which is based on the Gordon Music Learning Theory.
Date: Saturdays, February 5 & 19, and March 5 & 19

Serving on a Board
Learn about how best to contribute your time to a cause you care about by becoming a board member. Volunteer Center Director Doris Higgins will bring her experience and connections to help identify issues, potential pitfalls and the rewarding opportunities of serving on a board during this two-hour clinic. This presentation is geared toward those who want to give back to the community by considering becoming a board member, but those already serving are welcome to attend.

Home Energy Savings Workshop
This workshop will give homeowners and renters a basic understanding of how and where energy is used and wasted in the home, and will provide the techniques and know-how to achieve low-cost energy and cost savings. Learn the principles of energy transfer and how to apply them in your home in a hands-on and discussion format.
Date: Monday, February 7
Time: 7-9 p.m.

How to Grow Hydroponic
Learn how to grow your own produce year round in this fun and engaging class. With quality farming and water in high demand across the world, hydroponic growing is quickly becoming more and more attractive. This course will teach the fundamentals of germination, cloning of plant genetics, proper lighting, various stages of plant growth, building and maintaining hydroponic set-up.

Facebook Webinar
This is a beginner’s guide to using Facebook effectively in a small business. This two-hour course will teach the difference between Facebook pages and profiles, and the basic elements to running a successful page. Students will learn what type of content to post, the best title for the page, how to get fans and get them interacting on the page.

Go Organic!
Learn how organic growing works in nature with MSU horticulturist Stacy Rocklin. For both new gardeners and those who want to start growing organically. Find out what the gardener’s role in organic growing is and what the soil and plants do behind the scenes.
