How to Enroll for Incoming Transfer Students

Steps for students who previously attended another college or university and are now seeking a degree or certificate at LMC.

  1. Complete the LMC Application for Admission  Apply online!

If you are applying for financial aid or scholarships, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. Lake Michigan College's school code is: 002277.

Complete the LMC Scholarship Application. LMC scholarships are available based on academic achievement, financial need, and program of study.

  2. Submit Official Transcripts
Official transcripts should be mailed directly from each previous institution to:
    Lake Michigan College
    Records Office
    2755 E. Napier Avenue
    Benton Harbor, MI  49022-1899

Only official transcript information will be evaluated by the LMC Records Office. Students can bring a copy of an unofficial transcript for academic advising purposes and initial course placement only.

  3. If needed, take the LMC assessment test(s)
Following the evaluation of your incoming transfer credit, you may need to take the LMC assessment to further measure your reading, writing, and mathematics skill level.

You can take the assessment on the computer or with paper and pencil in about two hours at any campus location. You will need to present a photo ID and obtain a college ID number to take the assessment.

You may not need to take the assessment if you hold an associate's degree or higher, have transfer equivalency for certin college level courses, have taken the ACT or SAT within the last five years and have an appropriate score, or are taking courses with no prerequisites. An LMC Student Services Academic Advisor can assist you with any questions.

  4. Meet with a Student Services Academic Advisor
Academic Advisors will help to interpret your previous college courses and/or assessment test results. Your Academic Advisor will also build a personal educational plan based on your program of study, the career-building skills you want to acquire, and your overall educational goals.

  5. Register and Pay for Classes
After meeting with an Academic Advisor, you can sign up for classes. You can register and pay at any LMC campus for classes offered at the four campus locations. Learn more about payment options.
