June 29 Health Care Career Training Expo to be held at Lakeland Outpatient Site
June 14, 2011
BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – According to the Department of Labor, the healthcare industry will generate 3.2 million new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population.
Many of these in-demand healthcare career tracks require just one or two years of college-level education, making them accessible to students who have recently graduated from high school as well as to adults who are interested in making a career change.
To inform area residents about local healthcare career training opportunities, Lake Michigan College is holding a free Health Care Career Training Expo on Wednesday, June 29, at the Center for Outpatient Services at Lakeland Health Park, 3900 Hollywood Road, St. Joseph.
The Expo will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. for the general public and for current medical professionals looking to advance their health care education.
LMC faculty and staff will be on hand to discuss one- and two-year certificate and degree programs in dental assisting, emergency medical technician, health information networking, MRI, medical office systems, nursing, paramedic, radiologic technology, and ultrasound. Information will also be available about short-term, non-credit training programs in Certified Nurse Aide and Pharmacy Technician.
Those interested in pursuing non-credit healthcare careers that require short-term training programs will find information on certified nurse aids and pharmacy technicians. Information will be available about cooperative programs with Kalamazoo Valley Community College in dental hygienist, respiratory care, and medical assistant technology.
Representatives from Siena Heights University and Western Michigan University – Southwest will also be in attendance with information on their undergraduate and graduate degree health care programs.
