BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – Lake Michigan College will host a boys basketball camp from July 15 - 18 for boys entering 4th through 9th grades next school year.
Head men’s basketball coach Doug Schaffer is bringing back the summer camp that he helped create over a decade ago during his first stint as coach at the College. Schaffer returned as the Red Hawk’s men’s head basketball coach last season.
Schaffer and his staff believe it is important to mentor young athletes not only in the fundamentals of basketball, but also in becoming role models off the court as well.
“We have a lot of fun during the four days of camp, playing games and tournaments, but we also teach the importance of teamwork, leadership skills, and education,” Schaffer said.
Joining Schaffer as directors of the Red Hawk Basketball Camp are his assistant coaches, Jeremy Schaeffer and Gregg Schaffer, as well as his father, Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame member Jerry Schaffer.
“The kids who sign up and participate at this this camp will get an amazing experience from some of the best coaches this area has to offer. This is an extraordinary opportunity for young men in our community and I’m happy that Doug and his staff have reinstituted such a worthwhile camp,” said Lake Michigan College Athletic Director Jason Cooper.
