BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – The Lake Michigan College Concert Choir will present their Spring Choral Concert, “How Can I Keep from Singing,” a celebration of great English language choral standards. This will be the first concert for new LMC Choral Director Katherine Rohwer. Accompanying the choir is Kelly Meyer. The concert will take place Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. on the LMC Mendel Center Mainstage.
The concert will begin with Gwyneth Walker’s arrangement of “How Can I Keep from Singing” and end with Aaron Copeland’s revivalist song, “Zion’s Walls.” Other pieces on the program include a set of two Stephen Foster tunes: Moses Hogan’s “Great Day,” and the classic Norman Luboff’s “All My Trials.”
Joining the LMC Concert choir is the LMC Vocal Quintet, an a cappella ensemble that explores repertoire from the Renaissance to the 20th Century and various soloists. In addition, the premier ensemble from Lakeshore High School, the Lakeshore Chorale, will be performing a set that includes James Syler’s “Dear Sarah,” a setting of Sullivan Ballou’s Civil War letter to his wife featured prominently in Ken Burn’s acclaimed documentary “The Civil War.”
