LMC Community Education Classes Focus on Food and Photography

Registration Now Available for February Courses

SOUTH HAVEN, MI –Lake Michigan College’s South Haven Campus is set to feature community education classes in February that will appeal to both foodies and shutterbugs.

Wine 101
This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn about wine. Whether novice wine taster or casual wine drinker, this introduction to the world of wine will help participants decipher wine labels, understand varietal differences, and grasp “grape geography.” It will enable them to converse about wine without intimidation. The course is taught by Ruth Ryberg, Certified Sommelier and owner of Don’t Whine Do Wine. The course will conclude with a wine tasting. Must be 21 or older to enroll.

Understanding Community Food Systems
This presentation discusses the meaning of local foods and what is good food. The session will explore what makes up a community food system and how the food system benefits a community. It will also cover sustainability and the triple bottom line regarding our food infrastructure, and ways to enhance local food systems.

Basic Digital Photography
The course begins with the basics of photography, which apply to all methods of image capture, film and digital. Classes will also include practice in the field as well as reviews and critiques. Students should bring the camera they use the most or one they would like to learn to use better, the instruction manual for each camera, and spare batteries. Tripod is recommended, but not required.
