Fast track registration and financial prep offered
BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – Lake Michigan College will host a special Health Care Career Open House on August 13 at their Napier Avenue campus. Current and prospective students can meet with faculty members to learn more about the wide variety of health care career paths available and what training is required to get started.
Job growth projections for the health care industry remain strong in southwest Michigan and many careers can begin with a moderate level of training. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assistants earn up to $41,910 annually and employment is projected to grow 29 percent through 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations.
“The training and certification process for jobs like medical assistant, paramedic, phlebotomist, and pharmacy technician can be completed in one year or less,” said interim Vice President of Instruction for Career and Workforce Education, Leslie Kellogg. “Many of our students earn these certifications to get their careers started and then continue their studies while working in a hospital or health care setting.”
Open house attendees can also complete fast-track class registration and get help with financial aid, academic advising, and assessments. Appointments are not necessary and staff will be on-hand to guide students through the process.
The Health Care Career Open House will be held Wednesday, August 13, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at 2755 E. Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor. Tours will also be given of the Napier Avenue campus and Beckwith Hall, the first residence hall at LMC opening this fall.
