LMC Mendel Center Mainstage Travel Adventure Series to Feature Wales: Land of Song

January 26, 2011

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – The Travel Adventure Film Series at the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center Mainstage on Sunday, February 20, at 3 p.m. will feature Monty Brown presenting Wales: Land of Song.

This excursion will be a musical look at one of the most overlooked, yet romantic and spectacular countries of the world. Wales, often overlooked because it is thought of as an extension of England, features more castles than any other country, and spectacular ones, at that. It is also a land of mellifluous language, stunning scenery, 3 million people and 10 million sheep.

Located on the eastern shore of the Irish Sea, Wales offers stunning visual diversity from the big city bustle of Bristol to the castle dotted coastline of the Gower Peninsula.

Filmmaking musician, Monty Brown will take the audience on a memorable journey to Wales, a country that they have dubbed “Land of Song.” Monty will show that Wales is a Celtic land of history and mystery, sheep and a people who love to sing. To explore Wales is to hear to hear the music of the choirs and the Welsh harp, to hike along scenic coastal paths and magnificent mountain trails, and to listen to a language unchanged since St. David established his church in the sixth century. Wales is truly a large experience crowded into a tiny country no bigger than the state of Massachusetts.

Brown was born in England, raised in Canada and now lives in the United States. He thinks of himself as tri-cultural. He has worked in television production with the BBC in London, as a radio producer with the NPR affiliate in Shreveport, LA and as an actor in Canada and the UK. He and his wife, Marsha, are a musical duo working with school boards in Louisiana and New York to present folk music in an historical context.
