Cosmology and Major Appliances at LMC Bertrand Crossing Campus

March 14, 2014

NILES, MI – Lake Michigan College’s Bertrand Crossing Campus is offering several workshops in April, including free classes on cosmology and purchasing major appliances.

Cosmology: Expand Your Universe
This guide to the cosmos explores the theories and techniques astronomers have developed to explain big bangs through black holes. The current investigations into dark matter, dark energy, string theory, the Higgs Boson, and parallel universes will be introduced. The topics are sure conversation starters, and a great way for homeschoolers to get an introduction to modern astronomy.

Time:                6 – 8 p.m.

Purchasing and Maintaining Major Home Appliances
Major appliances are extremely reliable, but failures always seem to become an emergency situation. In a visit to the appliance store, they all seem to look about the same. Internal differences are significant however, and buying the wrong type may lead to several years of disappointing use. This workshop will walk students through ways to judge which styles and options are most appropriate for their lifestyle, as well as the appropriate installation and care of appliances. Additionally, students will learn to diagnose common problems, and to judge which repairs to attempt, and which to leave to a professional. The instructor has received factory-technician training, and worked in customer assistance for ten years.
