Comedy Pet Theater ~ See Cuddly Critters Steal Center Stage from the Juggling Clown!

January 24, 2011

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – It will be raining cats, dogs, and laughs at the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center Mainstage at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, when Gregory Popovich and his Comedy Pet Theater perform.

Simply said, this show is a comedy act that includes 15 house cats, 10 dogs, four geese, eight doves, two parrots and a juggler that do astonishing tricks.

Popovich, the human star, started out following in his family footsteps as a master juggler and international star of the Moscow Circus for 15 years. Settling in the U.S., he began to look for new things to add to his act. Knowing that adding one more ball or ring would not impress his audience, he added a house cat. Audiences loved watching the furry critter on stage. Cats doing stunts and tricks is extraordinary and impresses cat lovers and non-cat lovers. Adding dogs and birds to the act gave Popovich a winning formula.

Popovich rescued his furry co-performers from Las Vegas animal shelters and taught them to be stars. Comedy Pet Theater, voted the Best Family Attraction in Las Vegas, is now a mainstay at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. Opening in the ‘90s, it quickly became a favorite “must see” act for visitors and stars. The animal, juggling and comedy act has appeared on Animal Planet, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman. The show’s stars, Gregory, Rex and Sebastian, also have made their own TV miniseries.

Penn Jillette, of the Penn & Teller duo, probably best describes the appreciation of Popovich’s ability to get house cats to perform on cue, “Its genius. It’s like getting rocks to dance.”

There will be a Special Animal House Party with a kid friendly buffet starting at 5 p.m. Buffet tickets are $5 for children under 12, and $10 for adults.
