LMC Collaborates with Fernwood and Orchard Hills for May Community Education Classes

NILES, MI – Lake Michigan College’s Bertrand Crossing Campus is offering three workshops in May. A cooking class is offered in collaboration with Fernwood Botanical Gardens, and cooking and golf classes are offered at Orchard Hills Country Club.

 

Cooking with Herbs
Chef Tim Carrigan will lead students from the magnificent herb garden outside his kitchen window into his creative kitchen, where he will demonstrate the use of herbs to infuse everyday dishes with flavor and aromas and brighten up our culinary repertoire. The choices, the possibilities, and the flavors are endless. Some eating of homework is required. This course is part of an exciting new collaboration with our friends at the beautiful Fernwood Botanical Garden.

Marinades and Grilling
In his kitchen at Orchard Hills Country Club and out on his deck overlooking the St. Joseph River, Chef Tim Carrigan will explore different meats, cuts, flavorings, and serving ideas to help summer grilling parties go off with a bang. Students will learn to infuse impressive, crowd-pleasing flavor into grilled foods. Some eating of homework is required.

Golf for Beginners
A course of instruction for beginning and intermediate golfers, teaching golf rules, etiquette, and terminology at the Bertrand Crossing Campus’ beautiful neighbor, Orchard Hills Country Club. The beginner will learn the proper grip, stance, swing posture, and purpose of the various golf clubs. For intermediate players, the course will cover chipping, using a variety of “approach” shots including the “lob” shot, as well as solutions for “hooking” and “slicing”.
