Policy Statement:

To effectively meet the operating needs of the College, a reasonable period of time is necessary to facilitate the replacement process for the voluntary separation of an employee by resignation or retirement.

Administrative, Professional/Technical Staff and Classified Staff shall submit their resignation at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the effective date. Cabinet members shall submit their resignation at least twenty-eight (28) calendar days prior to the effective date. This notice must be time actually worked. Vacation, personal days and sick leave may not be included in the advance notice requirement, unless express permission to do so is given by the Vice-President of Administrative Services and Special Assistant to the President due to extraordinary circumstances.

Failure of Cabinet, Administrative and Professional/Technical Staff to provide the expected advance resignation notice will result in the employee being ineligible for re-hire, and the loss of all, or a portion of, any unused accrued vacation time, as determined by the Vice-President of Administrative Services and Special Assistant to the President.

Failure of Classified Staff to provide the expected advance resignation notice will result in the employee being ineligible for re-hire. If the employee has completed at least one full year of full-time employment, they will also forfeit all terminal pay.

Additionally, any employee who is absent from work for three (3) consecutive days without authorization may, at the College’s discretion, be deemed to have resigned without notice, unless the employee can prove that such a request for authorization was not possible due to circumstances beyond the employee’s control.
