BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – Barbara Radewald of Benton Harbor was named the 2013-2014 Lake Michigan College Mendel Center Mainstage Volunteer of the Year during the College’s 22nd annual volunteer appreciation party. She was recognized for her efforts from the group of 100 active Mainstage volunteers.
“Barbara is the ‘Energizer Bunny’ volunteer – always working hard to give back to her community and touch the lives of those who live here,” said Mike Nadolski, Mendel Center Mainstage director.
Nominated by her peers for the award this year, Barbara has volunteered with the Mendel Center Mainstage for 18 years. She is also an active volunteer for the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra, the Shadowland Carousel, Lory’s Place, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Michigan AgriWomen. She was born in Benton Harbor, and has lived in Southwest Michigan her whole life.
The appreciation event was held to celebrate the work of the volunteers who staffed more than 69 LMC and community events during the past season. Mainstage volunteers are responsible for ushering and assisting with mailings for the Theatre and the College.
During the annual party, awards are also given to volunteers based on years of service. This year, 6 volunteers received their 20-year service pins including Dorothea Crocker, Loretta Damico, Marie Hartline, Jane Krueger, Mabel Ott, and Camille Sandel. Receiving their 10-year pins were Sally Cheek, Carol Hauch, Pat Ostenson, Duane Ostenson, Patrick Poziwilko, Shirley Poziwilko, and Norma Rosenthal.
“Each show, our volunteers cheerfully give our patrons the red carpet treatment for which the Mendel Center is known,” Nadolski said. “We are pleased to be able to have an event dedicated to our volunteers to show our appreciation for their invaluable efforts each year.”
