Lake Michigan College Students

Enrollment Trends
Lake Michigan College serves 7,000 credit and non-credit students each year. The fall 2005 semester saw enrollment of 4,040.

One particular area of enrollment focus has been the new high school graduate market. Since 2000, enrollment in this area has increased by 40%. The Dual Enrollment/Direct Credit program with area high schools is another area of particular success as the college served over 1,100 students last year through more than 100 course sections offered for this group.

Age and Status
Approximately 70 percent of Lake Michigan College students are part time, taking fewer than 12 credit hours during the typical fall and winter semester. The average age of LMC students is 26 with 40 percent of students 25 or older.

Residency
In-district students, who reside in Berrien County, Covert Township in Van Buren County, and the South Haven School District account for 79% of the student population. Over time, the number of students residing within the service area, which includes anywhere in Michigan outside the LMC district and the Indiana counties of St. Joseph, LaPorte, and Elkhart, has grown with the addition of the Bertrand Crossing Campus in Niles and the South Haven Campus.
