Chiropractors believe that the mind-body connection is key in
preserving a healthy life style. Lake Michigan College will get
you on the right track to have a successful and rewarding career.
To be successful in chiropractic medicine, you need to:
- anticipate and meet the needs of patients
- have an excellent understanding of anatomy
- have good written and verbal communication skills
- be able to pick up on non-verbal cues and body language
- understand good business practices
Unlike other health practitioners, chiropractors use water, light,
massage, ultrasound, electric, and heat therapy to treat the patient.
Patients' needs vary, so it is important for chiropractors to
actively listen to the requests of each patient, and then correctly
diagnose and provide treatment.
Chiropractic philosophy combines conviction, critical thinking,
open-mindedness, and appreciation of the natural order of things.
Chiropractic focuses on the establishment and preservation of
a relationship between patients and their environment, which is
most helpful to functional well-being.
Other skills that are needed include:
- Active learning - the ability to quickly learn and apply
up to date techniques
- Inductive reasoning - using given information to make best
medical decision for each patient
