Skills You'll Need - Graphic
Design
Graphic design is a combination of fundamental art principles
and technology that aids in the expression of those principles.
Designers must use these tools to deliver visual message that
will be understood by their intended audience.
We must embrace digital tools without losing sight of the purpose
of graphic design. Designers must first and foremost have drawing
skills, be excellent problem solvers and skilled craftsman who
can execute their work with whatever tool, be it a pencil or
a computer, needed to deliver the message.
Other skills and knowledge you'll need to be successful include:
- Creativity
- A strong sense of esthetics including an eye for color and
detail, a sense of balance and proportion, and an appreciation
for beauty
- Proficiency in design software for page layout, vector graphics
drawing, image manipulation
- Digital photography
- Manual art skills including drawing and sketching
- Clear verbal and written communication
- Flexibility to work as part of a team and independently
- Professionalism
