What They're Saying - Hospitality Management

"When I decided to enroll in college, education wasn't just something I wanted or needed, it was something I had to have.

After putting three daughters through college I realized, it was now my time. On graduation day as I received my diploma I was filled with the feeling of euphoria. LMC and the hospitality management program left me feeling confident and competent.

My education has helped me every step of the way as I opened my café. Getting my education was like a sign at the crossroad in my life pointing the way to the career I've always wanted."

Jeannie Simmons
Owner of Jeannie's Cafe in the Box Factory
2000 Lake Michigan College Graduate in Hospitality Management

"Lake Michigan College is a very friendly place where instructors go out of their way to make sure students' educational needs are met.

Through LMC, I received an internship with Disney. I worked in the Animal Kingdom on the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction. This internship gave me the opportunity to apply what I had learned in the classroom in a practical environment.

LMC was a great place to learn the foundation of hospitality. The knowledge I gained in, and outside, the classroom are irreplaceable."

Mitch Martindale
2004 Lake Michigan College Hospitality Management Graduate
Night Audit Manager at Holiday Inn Express - St. Joseph
Currently attending Ferris State University

"The hospitality classes at Lake Michigan College always kept me on my toes for further pursuing my career in lodging, which is what I love. The activities for many of the courses allowed me to meet numerous contacts, and also provided me with an outlook of the actual field that I am going into.

I participated in the Walt Disney World College Program from January 2003 to May 2003 and have so many memories and experiences that I will never forget!"

"As a student, I liked the opportunity to network with others in the industry. The internship gives you a chance to see what you like and what you don't like about different industries. Getting out in the workforce is the best teacher.
As an employer I see how prepared LMC students are when they walk in to interview. My best advice when going into a job interview is to be open and honest about your expectations. The scariest thing to an employer is an interviewee that has no questions. Honesty will get you the job experience you are hoping for."

Cathy Fielding
1999 Lake Michigan College Graduate
Hospitality Manager at Tabor Hill Winery and Restaurant

" You don't have a product you're selling in a marketing sense. You're not selling a desk, a car, or a pillow… you're selling a full stomach, a good night's sleep, a memorable wedding, or a great wine tasting party. That's hospitality management."
