Skills You'll Need - Law Enforcement

A career in law enforcement requires courage, self-discipline, and the ability to make quick and effective decisions. It is the responsibility of these officials to be levelheaded and calm in the face of danger.

As a law enforcement official, you are part of a team. Every team member must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. It is this communication and trust in your team that will bring an emergency situation under control.

Law enforcement officials must be able to:

  • Have good judgment and decision making skills
  • Confidence
  • A drive to learn
  • Negotiation skills
  • Critical thinking skills
