Need - Political Science
A political science degree provides a solid awareness of diversity
in government, political theories, parties, public laws, justice,
and personal rights and freedoms.
Critical thinking and analysis are main ingredients in political
science. "I want students to realize that political science
can be a fun subject, but students cannot just accept what is
reported to them. They must learn to question everything,"
says Lake Michigan College instructor and program coordinator
Dr. Gary Roberts.
Political science can be controversial, so it is important
to be informed on many topics. Political science is a fast-paced
field. You must be willing to study current on political issues,
read comprehensively, and be prepared to communicate those issues
in writing. You also must have the ability to speak articulately.
Whether you pursue a career in education or in elected government
office, you must be able to work independently or as part of
a team.

- Ability to interact with diverse populations
- Work well under pressure
- Ability to develop and promote ideas
