Supplemental Instruction
 |
During the Fall and Winter semesters a series
of weekly group review/study sessions are available for
students taking selected courses. This program, called Supplemental
Instruction (SI), is provided for all students who want
to improve their understanding of the course material. Attendance
at any session is voluntary. |
This is an opportunity for students to join other
people who are taking the same class and compare notes, discuss
material, develop strategies for studying, and test themselves
before the actual test. Each session is facilitated by a SI
Leader who will guide students through the course material.
Who is a SI Leader?
A SI Leader is a student who has previously successfully
passed that particular course. The SI leader will share with
students study techniques related to the course material but
will not instruct students. The SI leader will attend regular
classes and help students think about and put in perspective
the lecture material and assigned readings.
When do sessions start?
At the beginning of the semester , students will
be introduced to their SI leader and asked to fill out a survey
regarding their interest in SI and times they will be available
for review sessions. There will be 2-3 sessions per week which
will be approximately 50 minutes long. Students can attend one,
or all sessions. Each session will be different, as it will
cover material presented in class by the professor.
Why attend SI?
Participating in SI has shown to improve chances
of students earning a better grade in the class. Students will
develop a better understanding of the course content and effective
ways of studying.
