Engineering and Industrial programs available at Lake Michigan
College include:
Apprentice Training
In cooperation with local employers, Lake Michigan College provides
apprentice training, which includes classroom instruction and
on-the-job training. Upon completion of the program, the apprentice
achieves the status of journeyperson. Students also earn college
credit that can be applied to a Certificate or Associate Degree
in Skilled Trades Technology.
Drafting & Design
The Drafting & Design curriculum prepares students to take advantage
of the manufacturing industryÕs need for competent drafters and
designers. Typical careers include graphic designer, machine designer,
mold designer, and tool designer.
Electronics/Electronic Technology
Electronics technicians with an associate degree are in demand
by local and national employers who manufacture, sell, repair,
or use electronic components and equipment. Graduates have a wide
variety of jobs to consider with typical career opportunities
such as electronics technicians, electrical technicians, and robotics
technicians.
Engineering (pre)
This program provides the first two years of study needed for
a bachelor's degree in Engineering and includes the requirements
for most Michigan and Indiana colleges and universities. Upon
completion of the four-year degree, typical careers available
include engineering positions in aeronautics, agriculture, industry,
manufacturing and nuclear technology, to name just a few.
General Technologies
The General Technologies program provides a broad knowledge of
technological areas applicable to the industrial setting. Through
careful selection of electives, students can prepare themselves
with the knowledge and skills applicable to a specific industrial
setting.
Industrial Maintenance Technology
Graduates of the Industrial Maintenance Technology program find
job opportunities both locally and nationally working in the design,
sale, installation, maintenance, and repair of machines and machine
components. Careers include maintenance mechanic, machine repairer,
and maintenance electrician.
Machine Tool Technology
The Machine Tool Technology program is designed to train students
in basic and advanced machine skills through classroom and laboratory
experience with traditional metal cutting and computer numerically
controlled machines. Careers available both locally and nationally
include tool and die maker, machinist, CNC programmer, mold maker,
CNC operator, and machine builder.
Plastics Technology
The Plastics Technology program prepares students for careers
that process a variety of plastics materials to meet the needs
of employers locally and nationally. Positions for which students
may become qualified include materials handler, plastics processor,
process control technician, industrial maintenance technician
and others.
Skilled Trades Technology
The Skilled Trades Technology curriculum is designed for students
who want to pursue an advanced level of education beyond their
certified apprentice training. Students enrolled in the program
can select a concentration of coursework that supports their chosen
career goals.
