Lake Michigan College offers a uniquely flexible, work-at-your-own pace, accredited program for the on-the-job trained dental assistant with two years full-time experience who wants to become a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in Michigan. Those who are interesed in this program should successfully, complete the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) examination prior to admission, fulfill Lake Michigan College entrance requirements.

Procedure for receiving Advanced Standing Credit (ASC). The candidates must:

  1. Successfully pass the CDA examination from DANB and submit a copy of the CDA certificate and current CDA card. If CDA card is not current, proof of completion of continuing education must be submitted for evaluation by the program coordinator.
  2. Submit a copy of current CPR/AED card. The program will accept the following: American Heart Association; Health Care Provider CPR; and American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  3. Submit a copy of current Standard First Aid course.
  4. Submit proof of attendance at an infection control seminar within the past two years.
  5. Complete LMC application and assessment.
  6. Be accepted into the LMC Dental Assisting Program.
  7. Successfully complete the specified independent study course and Clinical I before the following courses are accepted as ASC:

    DENT 166 Chairside I
    DENT 167 Chairside II
    DENT 168 Chairside III
    DENT 169 Chairside IV
    DENT 170 Intro. to Business Assisting
    DENT 171 Intro. to Dental Radiography
    DENT 172 Medical Issues
    HEAL 166 CPR/AED
    HEAL 165 Standard First Aid
    BUSA 150 Job Search Seminar

  8. Complete the "Advanced Standing Credit" application.
  9. Pay the ASC fee per course to the LMC Business Office to receive college credit.
  10. Receive credit on LMC transcript.
