Challenge Procedure:
Challenge exams are available to earn advanced placement in the
Dental Assisting program for any applicant who has previous Dental
Assisting experience training.
PROCEDURE FOR CHALLENGE OF EACH COURSE:
- Student completes the LMC application and reading and writing
assessments.
- Student must be accepted into the LMC Dental Assisting Program.
- Student can challenge up to 27 credit hours of the Dental
Assisting Program.
- Student who has selected to challenge one or more of the
following dental assisting courses must meet the requirements
of that course. The examinations required to successfully challenge
each of the following dental assisting courses are described
below:
DENT 165 Introduction to Dental Assisting (3 credits)
Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
DENT 166 Chairside I (3 credits)
- Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
- Complete the performance test in three hours (continuous)
and have a score of 100%.
- Obtain and record vital signs according to the stated criteria.
DENT 167 Chairside II (3 credits)
- Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
- Complete the performance test in three hours (continuous)
and have a score of 100%.
DENT 168 Chairside III (3 credits)
- Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
- Complete the performance test in three hours (continuous)
and have a score of 100%.
- Fabricate a full maxillary or mandibular custom tray and
one anterior or posterior quadrant custom tray according to
the stated criteria.
- Pour and trim a study model according to the stated criteria.
DENT 169 Chairside IV (3 credits)
- Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
- Complete the performance test in three hours (continuous)
and have a score of 100%.
DENT 170 Introduction to Business Assisting (3 credits)
Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
DENT 171 Introduction to Dental Radiography (4 credits)
- Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
- Place, expose, process and mount a FMX including BW in 45
minutes on "Dextter" according to the stated criteria.
- Submit a FMX on a patient of record verified by dentist.
DENT 172 Medical Issues in the Dental Office (2 credits)
Complete the written final examination in three hours (continuous)
and achieve 85% mastery and correct to 100%.
Approved prior Experiential Learning Credit can be granted
for:
DENT 173 Clinical I
