ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Nursing Student Handbook:
The nursing programs are highly technical programs and deal
with the safety of patients admitted to local hospitals and nursing
homes. For this reason, the nursing student is subject to many
rules not required of other College students. Most of these rules
are listed in the Student Handbook. A copy of the handbook may
be obtained from the Health Science Department, seen in the library,
and it will be given to accepted students at orientation.
Required CPR for Professional Rescuer, Healthcare Provider,
and AED (Automated External Defibrilation) Certification:
CPR certification/recertification (BCLS or AED) is required and
may be obtained before beginning the program. Heart Saver and
Race for Life are not acceptable. CPR must be completed
before the start of the first semester for first year and
second year students. For students completing two consecutive
years of nursing, CPR is good for two years.
Physical Exam & Immunizations:
All nursing students are required to have a physical exam completed
prior to beginning nursing classes. This is best done in the summer
just before classes begin.
As part of this physical exam, it is essential to provide proof
of freedom from communicable diseases. If this information is
not on the physical form, it will be required separately. Specific
vaccinations must be done or proof of antibody titer immunity
provided for the following:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella)
- Td (Tetanus, Diptheria)
- Hepatitis B vaccination
- Tuberculin Skin Test with negative results or proof of freedom
from TB by chest x-ray
Transportation & Attendance:
All nursing students must have their own dependable transportation
and dependable baby sitters who can care for children even if
they become ill. Attendance rules are strict and are enforced.
COST ESTIMATES:
Tuition: See class schedule for current rates. Note that
for some of
the courses there is an additional fee. This is a fee for hours
that a course meets per week that are more than the credit hours.
