Welcome to the Career and Technical Education Division of Lake Michigan College. Career and Technical Education encompasses programs and courses that prepare students to gain or advance in employment, prepare for transfer to upper levels of education, or pursue skill building through lifelong learning. We welcome all students to explore areas of interest as well as concentrate in an area of choice.

Career and Technical Education faculty are not only prepared to teach subject matter; they also have experience working in the fields they teach and are able to relate what students are expected to learn to the "real world". They take pride in their ability to meet the needs of local employers and challenge students to use critical thinking, team building and communication skills. Students who complete courses in Career and Technical Education programs may find employment in their field of study before completing a program. Students who complete Career and Technical Education programs may sit for licensure, certification or registry examinations; obtain a journeyperson's card; or gain or advance in current employment.

The influence of Career and Technical Education programs extends far beyond local or regional boundaries. Our local employers are affected by world markets and expect our graduates to assist them to meet quality and performance goals from the global market place. The education students receive at LMC provides portable credentials for those who wish to work in areas other than the local or regional community.

Our programs are examined regularly for their relevance to the current marketplace and meet twice annually with advisory committees made up of local employers, consumers and students who recommend direction, content and equipment needed to keep programs current. We welcome suggestions at any time and look forward to assisting students who wish to enter or are in any of the programs.
