Early College - Let's Get Started!

Follow these steps to get started with Early College direct credit and dual enrollment classes.

1. Meet with your high school guidance counselor or Career Technical Education Director. He or she can tell you what college classes may count toward your high school graduation requirements as well as what classes are available to you.

2. Complete three Lake Michigan College forms - The Application for Admission, and Early College Direct Credit/Dual Enrollment Authorization. The Early College Direct Credit/Dual Enrollment Authorization form must have the necessary signatures if your high school is paying the tuition and fees.

3.Take the LMC assessment or submit your ACT or SAT scores. By reaching certain scores on the LMC assessment, ACT, or SAT, you show that you are ready for college-level coursework.

4. Register for classes. You can register for direct credit classes through your LMC Admissions Coordinator, high school guidance office, or high school Career & Technical Education director. You can register for dual enrollment classes at any LMC campus.

5. Buy your books. You will need to purchase books for dual enrollment classes offered on LMC campuses through the LMC Bookstore. For direct credit and dual enrollment classes offered at your high school, check with your guidance office or career and technical education director to see if books will be provided on your first day of class or if you need to purchase them at the LMC Bookstore.

6. Go to class. Classes you take on an LMC campus may have different start and end dates than your high school classes. Check the academic calendar. Direct credit and dual enrollment classes offered at your high school will generally follow your high school's academic calendar.
