Scholarship Detail - Academic Excellence

 

2008 High School Graduates Only

Anne & David Brockway Music Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Be residents of the Lakeshore, St. Joseph, or Benton Harbor areas
  • Be current high school graduates entering College for the first time
  • Be declared Music majors
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from their high school music director and/or private lesson instructor
  • Complete a competitive audition process
  • Have earned cumulative high school G.P.A. of 3.0
  • May be renewed if G.P.A. of 3.0 is maintained
  • Be enrolled full time
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Berrien County Bar Association Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • For a high school senior resident of Berrien County
  • Must have a minimum cumulative high school 3.0 GPA
  • Must intend to enroll full-time (12 credit hours) for Fall semester following graduation
  • Must show evidence of community involvement and/or school extracurricular activities
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and continue full-time enrollment to receive the Winter allocation
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Board of Trustees Academic/Leadership Scholarship
Amount: Up to $1,000

  • For a high school senior in the service area
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Bruce Zech Memorial Scholarship*
Amount: $1,000, may be used for tuition, fees and/or books

  • Current high school graduates entering college for the first time
  • One recipient each year will be a Berrien Springs High School graduate
  • Have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA
  • May be a full-time or part-time student
  • Demonstrate financial need, but do not qualify for other significant forms of financial aid
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Early College Achievement Award
Amount: Varies

  • Current year high school graduates
  • Up to $500 per semester for four consecutive semesters (Fall/Winter only)
  • Must have completed at least four credit hours at LMC by the time of high school graduation
  • Cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA in all LMC classes
  • Minimum high school 3.0 GPA
  • Must enroll full time, or part time if completing final semester toward LMC graduation
  • Renewable each semester provided student completes minimum of 12 credit hours and maintains 3.0 GPA
  • Must enroll for Fall classes by June 30
  • All scholarships and grants that only cover tuition, fees or books must first be applied
  • Combination of all scholarships and grants in addition to the Early College Achievement Award cannot exceed the amount of tuition, fees & books
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Emerging Scholars Scholarship
Amount: $200

  • For at least one student from the senior class of each high school in the LMC service area
  • Has the ability to benefit and the will to succeed in his/her selected program of study
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

John E.N. and Dede Howard Endowed Music Scholarship
Amount: Varies, may be used for tuition, fees, books, music, instrument repair, and other related educational costs

  • For an outstanding student studying instrumental music at LMC
  • Must intend to transfer to a four-year music program with further intent to pursue a career in a music field
  • Demonstrated excellence and leadership through their high school music career
  • Minimum high school cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Must provide a letter of recommendation from their high school music director and/or private lesson instructor
  • Must complete a competitive audition process
  • Renewable for a second year provided a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in all music classes is maintained
  • Must be a full-time student (12 credit hours)
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Lake Michigan College Board of Trustees Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Current year high school graduates
  • Up to $800 per semester for four consecutive semesters (Fall and Winter only)
  • Minimum 3.25 GPA
  • Full-time enrollment (minimum 12 credit hours Fall and Winter)
  • Renewable each semester provided student completes minimum of 12 credit hours and maintains 3.0 GPA
  • Must enroll for Fall classes by June 30
  • All scholarships and grants that only cover tuition, fees or books must first be applied
  • Combination of all scholarships and grants in addition to the Board of Trustees Scholarship cannot exceed the amount of tuition, fees & books
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Lake Michigan College Presidential Scholars Award
Amount: Varies

  • For current year high school graduates
  • Covers all tuition and fees and books for four consecutive semesters (Fall and Winter only)
  • Minimum 3.75 GPA
  • Full-time enrollment required (minimum 12 credit hours Fall and Winter)
  • Renewable by semester provided student completed minimum of 12 credit hours and maintains 3.5 GPA
  • Must enroll for Fall classes by June 30
  • All scholarships and other aid that cover only tuition, fees or books must first be applied before the Presidential Scholars Award is applied
  • Does not cover any transitional study courses
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Lory A. Schults Family Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Be a resident of Southwest Michigan
  • Preference will go to a non-music major who wishes to continue the study of music
  • Be a current high school graduate entering college for the first time
  • Earn a minimum 3.0 high school GPA
  • Plan to enroll full-time (12 credit hours) at LMC
  • Complete a competitive audition process
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from your high school music director or private lesson teacher
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in all classes to qualify for scholarship renewal in the second semester
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

St. Joseph Township Lions Club Arthur Kalinas Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • Preference will be given to a resident of St. Joseph Township
  • Must be a 2006 high school graduate
  • Must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA for eligibility and renewal Winter semseter
  • Must plan to enroll as a full-time (12 credit hours) student for the Fall semester following high school graduation
  • Will demonstrate leadership through involvement in school, civic, community, or church organizations
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship
Amount: Covers up to 15 credits per semester (tuition only)

  • For the valedictorian or salutatorian at a high school in the LMC service area
  • Must intend to enroll for the fall semester following graduation
  • Must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0
  • Renewable for a second year if 3.0 GPA or higher is maintained
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

 

Returning LMC Students Only

Betts Rittmeyer Memorial Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • For a returning LMC student
  • Must maintain minimum LMC 3.0 GPA
  • Must be a math, science, or physical education major
  • First LMC math class was Basic Math or Elementary Algebra
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Divisional Scholarship
Amount: $500 a year

  • For a returning LMC student who intends to transfer or graduate at the end of the academic year
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Other financial aid received will be taken into account

Harry B. Ross Scholarship
Amount: Varies, may be used tuition, fees and books

  • For a returning LMC student pursuing a career in engineering or the sciences
  • Preference will be given to full-time (12 credit hours) students
  • Must have proven him/herself by outstanding work in their chosen subjects
  • Must show intelligence, ingenuity, persistence and enthusiasm for their studies as demonstrated by their grades and the recommendations of their teachers
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

LMC Advancement Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Be permanent residents of the in-district service area
  • Have attended Lake Michigan College for at least two semesters and be enrolled for additional academic work at the College
  • Be in a degree-seeking program
  • Have and maintain a 3.5 GPA
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 credit hours per semester
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Marie Pastric Olney Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • For students in the Nursing Program who have completed the course "Fundamentals of Nursing" with a grade of B or better
  • Second year students must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Must submit a letter from a clinical instructor indicating the student's excellence and enthusiasm for the nursing profession and compassion for those for whom they care
  • Must submit a letter explaining why the nursing profession was chosen and how this scholarship will help
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

 

2008 High School Grads OR Returning LMC Students

Academic Mathematics Scholarship
Amount: Varies, for tuition for mathematics courses only

  • Must have successfully completed Calculus I at LMC with a grade of "A"
  • Must be enrolled in mathematics courses at the Napier Avenue Campus
  • Must earn a grade of "A" in each pre-requisite math course to qualify for award at the next level of mathematics
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Barnes and Noble Business Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • For students majoring ina two year business degree or a business transfer program
  • High school applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • College applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Berrien County Medical Society Scholarship*
Amount: $1,000 per year ($500 per Fall & Winter semesters)

  • Must be a resident of Berrien County
  • Must be accepted to the LPN or ADN program
  • Be a current college student
  • Have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for renewal
  • May be full-time or part-time
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Bernice Tiscornia Honors Program Scholarship
Amount: Varies, may be used for tuition, fees and/or books

  • Graduates of a Berrien County high school
  • Current traditional college students
  • Meet all requirements for acceptance into the Honors Program
  • Document past community service activities
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Bradley J. Petigoretz Scholarship*

Amount: Varies

  • Must reside in the LMC district of Berrien County, Covert Township or the South Haven School District in Van Buren County
  • May be an incoming freshman with a minimum 3.0 GPA, or
  • May be a returning LMC student with a minimum College GPA of 3.0
  • Must enroll full-time (12 credit hours)
  • Must have a letter of recommendation from a high school counselor, or teacher, or College instructor or staff member
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Cooper Endowed Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • Be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in the arts, theatre or graphic design programs
  • Have and maintain a 3.0 GPA for eligibility and/or renewal
  • Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Elisha Gray II Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • For students pursuing a two-year manufacturing technology or transfer engineering degree
  • High school applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • College applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • May be a full-time or part-time student
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Harry E. Ross Scholarship
Amount: Varies, may be used for tuition, fees, or books

  • For a student pursuing a career in the natural sciences
  • Preference given to students planning to teach ecology, conservation, or work in forestry or agriculture
  • Preference will be given to full-time (12 credit hours) students
  • High school and college applicants must have maintained a minimum cululative 3.0 GPA
  • Award based on merit
  • Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need
  • Renewable for a second year provided a minimum 2.5 GPA is maintained
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Lakeshore Rotary Club Scholarship*
Amount: $3,000

  • Be residents of the Lakeshore, Bridgman, or River Valley school districts and citizens of the U.S.
  • Be current high school graduates or may be current College students or non-traditional students
  • Have and maintain a 3.0 GPA to apply and/or qualify for renewal
  • Non-traditional students may waive the GPA requirement to apply but must meet the requirement for renewal
  • May be full-time ore part-time students (award will be based on the number of credit hours registered for each semester)
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Rich Wohlfert Memorial Scholarship*
Amount: Varies, for tuition, fees & books for required Hospitality Management courses

  • Residents of South Haven, St. Joseph, or Benton Harbor areas
  • Current high school graduates entering College for the first time, or
  • Current or new college students, traditional or non-traditional
  • Enrolled in the Hospitality Management program
  • Have and maintain a 3.0 GPA for eligibility and/or renewal
  • Preference will be given to students with one year's experience in the food service industry and with a demonstrated interest in a career in food service
  • Full-time or part-time students
  • Must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Senator Harry Gast Leadership Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Must be a resident of the Lake Michigan College district
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with a minimum 3.0 GPA, or
  • Returning LMC student with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must enroll full-time (12 credit hours)
  • Must document leadership or involvement that helped to advance the cause of their school, business, organization or community
  • Preference will be given to students interested in law enforcement, environmental programs, agriculture, or education
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Tony & Rose Monte-Monte Package Company Agriculture Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Plan to enroll full-time at LMC and declare agriculture or a related field as their major
  • Plan to transfer to Michigan State University after completion of their program at LMC
  • Must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
  • Must submit a letter demonstrating why he/she wants to major in an agriculture program
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Whirlpool Corporation Leadership Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • For two high school students entering college for the first time and for two adults
  • High school applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours), and working to complete an associate degree in a Occupational Studies program related to business
  • Adult applicants must have achieved a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA, must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours per semester, and working to complete an associate degree in an Occupational Studies program or taking classes to enhance their job related skills
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Lake Michigan College Scholarships have been established by generous friends, organizations, businesses, and LMC to help students succeed in achieving their educational goals. The required qualifications for each scholarship are listed below. To apply for a scholarship designated with an asterisk(*) you must also complete a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA - click for the online version) and indicate LMC (Title IV code 002277) as a college you plan to attend.
