Scholarship Detail - Fine Arts/Music/Theatre

Anne & David Brockway Music Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • Be residents of the Lakeshore, St. Joseph or Benton Harbor areas
  • Be current high school graduates entering College for the first time
  • Be declared music majors
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from their high school music director and/or private lesson instructor
  • Complete a competitive audition process
  • Have earned a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0
  • May be renewed if GPA of 3.0 is maintained
  • Be enrolled full-time
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Board of Trustees Music Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Must perform in one of the instrumental or vocal LMC performing groups
  • A music audition is required with the Music Department
  • When applicable, a letter of recommendation from the student’s high school music teacher is required
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Carol L. Sizer Piano Scholarship
Amount: $500 per year; to be used for tuition and fees for piano and ensemble classes

  • For a full-time freshman piano student
  • Must provide a letter of recommendation from their private piano instructor and/or high school music teacher
  • Must complete a competitive audition process
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA to receive the Winter semester allocation
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Cooper Endowed Scholarship*
Amount: Varies

  • Be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in the arts, theatre or graphic design programs.
  • Have and maintain a 3.0 GPA for eligibility and/or renewal
  • Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Gene Harris Memorial Music Scholarship*
Amount: $500 per year

  • For a recent high school graduate
  • Intend to enroll full-time for the semester following graduation
  • Must be a resident of the Twin Cities area
  • Must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.5
  • Must be enrolled in music courses (voice or instrumental)
  • Must show evidence of involvement in community, school or church activities
  • Must have a desire to develop his/her talents to give back to the community
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and continue full-time enrollment to receive the Winter semester allocation
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

John E. N. and Dede Howard Endowed Music Scholarship
Amount: Varies; may be used for tuition, fees, books, music, instrument repair, and other related educational costs

  • For an outstanding student studying instrumental music at LMC
  • Must intend to transfer to a 4-year music program with further intent to pursue a career in a music field
  • Demonstrated excellence and leadership through their high school music career
  • Minimum high school 3.0 GPA
  • Must provide a letter of recommendation from their high school music director and/or private lesson instructor
  • Must complete a competitive audition process
  • Renewable for a second year provided a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in all music classes is maintained
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Lory A. Shults Memorial Scholarship
Amount: Varies

  • Be a resident of Southwest Michigan
  • Preference will go to a non-music major who wishes to continue the study of music
  • Be a current high school graduate entering college for the first time
  • Earn a minimum 3.0 high school GPA
  • Plan to enroll full-time (12 credit hours) at LMC
  • Complete a competitive audition process
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from your high school music director or private lesson teacher
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in all classes to qualify for scholarship renewal in the second semester
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Louise Requardt Naylor Scholarship*
Amount: Varies, for tuition for applied music courses only

  • Must be an applied music student, preferably a piano student
  • Will be selected by the Music Department scholarship committee by audition
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Stephen R. Sizer Vocal Music Scholarship
Amount: $500 per year

  • For students who perform in one of the LMC vocal performing groups
  • Must complete a competitive audition process
  • When applicable, a letter of recommendation from the student's high school music teacher is required
  • Must enroll in voice lessons and a choral ensemble
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA to receive the Winter semester allocation
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Theatre Scholarship
Amount: Varies depending on student’s theatrical ability,tuition costs, and other financial aid received

  • Recipients must perform in one of the LMC theatre productions
  • Do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify

Lake Michigan College Scholarships have been established by generous friends, organizations, businesses, and LMC to help students succeed in achieving their educational goals. The required qualifications for each scholarship are listed below. To apply for a scholarship designated with an asterisk(*) you must also complete a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA - click for the online version) and indicate LMC (Title IV code 002277) as a college you plan to attend.
