BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – Lake Michigan College has opened its Career and Transfer Center at the Napier Avenue Campus, which is designed to provide students with centralized resources as they plan for their next step in life.
At the Center, students have access to online and printed information on careers, transfer requirements to four-year institutions, campus visits, transfer workshops and advising, college catalogs and applications for admission to four-year institutions along with scholarship information.
“Students today are confronted with many issues in deciding which path to take for their futures,” explained LMC Executive Dean for Student Services Dr. John Selmon. “Do they want to go on to four-year institutions? If so, what will they study and will their associate’s degree credits transfer? Do they want to test the job market? We’ve made it easier for our students now to get the information they need to help answer these questions.”
The Career and Transfer Center provides an emphasis on one-on-one advising in order to assist with successful transfers to a four-year institution.
“One of the most important components of beginning a college education is preparing for the future,” said Nancy Johnson, the College’s Director of Advising and Retention. “We want to ease the transfer process by providing students with the necessary information early in their educational careers so that they can maximize their time at LMC, which then translates into cost and time savings when they go on to a four-year institution.”
The Career and Transfer Center is open to LMC students Monday – Thursday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Saturday (by appointment only), 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
