LMC Archives
MISSION
STATEMENT
The mission of the Lake Michigan College Archives is to collect,
organize and maintain historical and administrative records that
document the growth and development of the College since its 1946
founding. This documentation includes catalogs, handbooks, reports,
yearbooks, videos, photographs, brochures, student publications,
accreditation materials, advertising, news articles, and minutes
of meetings of the Board of Trustees and other committees. See
also the William Hessel Library Selection
Policy.
BORROWING MATERIALS
The LMC Archives are available to students, staff, alumni, and
the community. Materials are generally used within the Archives
under the supervision of the Archivist or a Librarian. To ensure
the preservation of materials for future use, Archives requires
the following of all patrons:
- All archive material
leaving the Archives must be signed out on the Archive Check-Out
Log located in the Archivist's office (L101).
- Materials must be
returned by the date specified on the Archive Check-Out Log.
- Copies and photographs
should not be mounted on paper, cardboard, etc. or use glue,
rubber cement, tape, metal paper clips or adhesives of any kind.
- Do not write on
any materials; do not put self-adhesive notes on originals.
- Use care in handling
materials: do not put fingerprints on the surface; do not bend
or fold.
- In all cases, publication
or display of Archive materials must carry the credit line:
"from the collection of The Lake Michigan College Archives."
- Provision of copies
does not constitute permission to publish.
Materials required
for research may be temporarily held at the Circulation Desk for
easier access; they must be signed out for each use. LMC employees
may borrow most materials; each item must be listed on the Archive
Check-Out Log. The Archivist reserves the right to determine
whether or not materials may leave the Archives. The Archivist
also reserves the right to provide photocopies, electronic files,
or CD-ROMs of the requested information. Due to its confidential
nature, some material requires permission from the appropriate
office before viewing (i.e. Presidential Notes). See the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This has an impact
on the use of Archives material.
DONATIONS
See the William Hessel Library Gifts
Policy. The Archivist reserves the right to determine
usefulness of donated materials. Please call or email before sending
materials to the Archives unless prior arrangements have been
made.
