Discover your passion for taking care of others with the help of Lake Michigan College’s Medical Assisting program. This program is part of the Healthcare Education Institute located on the M-TEC campus. The Healthcare Education Institute brings together both short-term training and credit education programs that will prepare you for high-skill, high-demand, and high-wage occupations in the healthcare industry.

Medical assistants are an important part of the health care team and their responsibilities continue to expand as the need for their expertise increases. The Medical Assisting program is a one year certificate program that will prepare students to perform administrative and clinical duties in various medical settings such as clinics, physician offices and hospitals.

Career Information

Medical assistants perform both administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a physician. read more

Classroom Experience

Lake Michigan College’s Medical Assisting program is part of the Healthcare Education Institute located on the M-TEC campus.
