Student Wins Lake Michigan College President's
Art Award

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI - The 2001 Lake Michigan College
"President's Art Award," given annually to an LMC
art student, has been awarded to Amber Robinson of Coloma for
her charcoal profile portrait titled "Wind Dreamer."
The award is part of the College's commitment to recognize exemplary
art students. Robinson was awarded $300 and her piece becomes
part of the College's permanent art collection.
"The College believes that art is part of
the learning experience for every student on campus," said
LMC President, Dr. Richard Pappas. "We are excited to have
Amber's work be a part of our collection."
Each year, artwork from the annual student art
show is reviewed and a piece is chosen as the award winner.
Judging criteria is based on the artwork's ability to attract
the attention of other students and cause a significant learning
discussion.
"Amber's 'Wind Dreamer' piece is a very strong
profile portrait and it shows a great sense of light and shadow,"
said LMC head art instructor, Ken Schaber. "She is a talented
artist, and having her artwork as a part of the permanent collection
is a real honor."
Robinson, an art major who has been involved in
art since the eighth grade, is a 2000 graduate of Coloma High
School. In addition to being a full-time student, she plays
volleyball for LMC and works for the St. Joseph Parks Department.
