Lake Michigan College Student Awarded AEP Scholarship
BENTON
TOWNSHIP, MI - Byron Allen of Benton Harbor has been awarded
of the American Electric Power Scholarship at Lake Michigan
College for the 2002-2003 academic year. Allen, who is studying
electronics technology at LMC and is employed at Villa Environmental
Consultants, Inc. as a technician, is the first recipient of
this newly established endowed scholarship at LMC.
According to Barry Vissel, AEP community services
manager, the company established the scholarship to help underemployed
workers gain the technical and academic skills they need to
succeed in high-skill, high-wage jobs in southwestern Michigan.
"AEP wants to assist students who are in
entry level positions to increase their skills and advance their
careers," stated Vissel. "Byron is a perfect fit for
this scholarship."
To be eligible for this scholarship, students
must be a resident of the Lake Michigan College District, be
employed full or part time at any entry-level position, demonstrate
financial need, and plan to enroll for at least six credit hours
at the college's M-TEC facility and/or for other LMC classes
that lead to a degree in an industrial field. The scholarship
can be used to offset the cost of tuition, fees, books, childcare,
or transportation.
