Audition Dates Set at Lake Michigan College for the Musical
"No, No, Nanette"

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI - Auditions for Lake Michigan College's roaring '20s musical production of No, No, Nanette will take place on Monday and Wednesday, January 20 and 22, at 7 p.m. in the LMC Mendel Center's Hanson Theatre.

No, No, Nanette was an instant Broadway hit when it opened in 1925 and the winner of four Tony Awards for the 1971 Broadway revival. Featuring such delightful songs as "Tea for Two" and "I Want to be Happy," it was written by Otto Harbach and Frank Mandel, adapted by Burt Shevelove with music by Vincent Youmans, and lyrics by Irving Ceasar and Otto Harbach.

No, No, Nanette is the story of love and friendship among three couples and the comic entanglements that ensue when Jimmy Smith, a married, hard working, and successful Bible publisher agrees to accompany young Nanette to the Chickadee Cottage in Atlantic City. Nanette sheds her ladylike shell for a wild and exciting weekend in the sun with her flapper friends when unbeknownst to her Tom, her fiancé, shows up. The quiet weekend that Jimmy's wife Sue and friend Lucille expected to have at the Chickadee, gets complicated with misunderstandings when Sue meets Jimmy's three girl friends he's met on business trips who like to spend his money. Jimmy calls in his lawyer friend, Billy, to get him out of the jam with his wife and the stage is filled with amazed and bewildered people and unexpected comings and goings. By the third act, everything is so complicated that marriages are about to be broken, love affairs ended, and the threat of scandal and blackmail looms in the air.

No, No, Nanette will be produced on April 3, 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. There are ten principal parts as well as ladies' and men's dance and chorus parts. A backstage crew is needed to build and paint the set as well as do sound, lighting, costumes, and properties before and during the show.

Those interested in auditioning should dress comfortably and ready to sing, dance, and read. Those interested in backstage work need only to complete an audition sheet. For those interested in taking Theatre Practicum, the class that corresponds with this production, scholarships are available. Those with questions regarding the production can contact the director, Kevin Wurz, at 269-927-8627.
