Jazz Band, Voices LMC and Concert Choir Featured
in the Lake Michigan College Fine Arts Concert
BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI - The Lake Michigan College
Music Department will present its annual Fine Arts Concert on
Sunday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the LMC Mendel Center Hanson
Theater. Featured ensembles will include Voices LMC, the Concert
Choir and the Jazz Band.
The Concert Choir, directed by Dan Hendrickson, will perform
selections from the Alfred Burt Carols. The Alfred Burt Carols
are a collection of carols that resulted when Alfred Burt, a
young jazz musician, collaborated with Wihla Hutson and his
father the Reverend Bates G. Burt between 1943 and 1954 in the
creation of original carols which were then sent to friends
as Christmas cards. The carols have delighted audiences and
musicians for years. The Concert Choir will also perform "Song
of Peace" by Vincent Persichetti, and the spiritual "I
Got Shoes," arranged by Robert Shaw.
Voices LMC, under the direction of Dan Hendrickson, will perform
a varied program of a cappella literature including Irish, Scotch,
French, Czech, Spanish, German, and American folk tunes.
The Jazz Band, directed by Jim Cooper, will perform "Easy
Does It" by Lennie Niehaus, "Dance of Denial"
by Michael Philip Mossman, and "Sing, Sing, Sing"
by Louis Prima. The Jazz Band will also perform works by Earle
Hagen and Mark Taylor.
The LMC Mendel Center is located on LMC's Napier Avenue Campus
in Benton Township, one mile east of interstate I-94 at exit
30. Tickets for the concert are $7 for adults and $5 for students
and senior citizens. Groups of 20 or more can purchase individual
tickets for $4 each. Tickets are available through the Mendel
Center Box Office at (269) 927-1221.
