Lake Michigan College and Ox Bow Present
South Haven Community Arts Day

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI - On Friday, March 26, Lake Michigan College will host the South Haven Community Arts Day to highlight Ox-Bow Summer School of Art and Artists' Residency as well as South Haven's local art organizations. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at LMC's South Haven Campus from noon until 6 p.m.

Throughout the afternoon, representatives from Ox-Bow, Lake Michigan College's Art Department, the Paul Dickerson Studio Art Museum, Blue Star Music Camp, South Haven Center for the Arts, and Our Town Players will share their programs through performances, demonstrations, presentations, and slide shows. Refreshments will be provided.

"This is a wonderful way for anyone to learn about the fabulous art classes that are available in our community," said Janice Varney, executive dean of the South Haven Campus. "Summer and year-round residents, students, and art enthusiasts will have an opportunity to talk to representatives of local arts organizations and learn about the treasure in our backyard - Ox-Bow."

Starting at noon-2 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Ox-Bow executive director June Bowman will present a short history lecture on Ox-Bow, the 94-year old art school located in Saugatuck. Long-time Ox-Bow staff member and artist Becky Wehmer will follow Bowman with a slide show highlighting Ox-Bow's course offerings for summer 2004. Ox-Bow staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide examples of paper, print, glass and ceramic work, as well as historic paintings created at Ox-Bow.

Additionally, Wehmer will introduce audience members to South Haven's new state-of-the-art glassblowing school and studio, Water Street Glassworks. Ox-Bow faculty members, owners of Vesuvius Gallery and Fiasco Glass in Glenn, Michigan, and accomplished glass artists Jerry and Kathy Catania opened Water Street Glassworks for its first season of programming in January.
