LMC's Schaffer Named MCCAA Athletic Director
of the Year

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI - Doug Schaffer, Lake Michigan College's
athletic director and men's basketball head coach, has been
named the Michigan Community College Athletic Association's
(MCCAA) Athletic Director of the Year for 2004-2005. The MCCAA
is comprised of 18 community college athletic programs throughout
Michigan.
Schaffer joined LMC in 1998 as head coach of the men's basketball
team. In 2001, he stepped into the roll of athletic director
for the College. Under his guidance, LMC's athletic program
has achieved excellence in the classroom and on the playing
field. In the last three years, 81 percent of LMC's second year
student athletes have graduated, transferred to four-year schools,
or continued taking classes at LMC. 2004-2005 academic highlights
include a combined 3.0 grade point average for the women's basketball
team and 100 percent of sophomore softball players earning associate
degrees.
As coach, Schaffer led the men's basketball team to its most
wins in school history by posting a 27-7 record in 2004-2005.
This year, the team also won the NJCAA Region XII, District
8 championship and finished 7th in the nation.
Other honors Schaffer received this year included being named
Region XII, District 8 Coach of the Year and Men's Community
College Coach of the Year by the Basketball Coaches Association
of Michigan.
