Coloma Student Awarded Full Scholarship by Lake Michigan College

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI - Lake Michigan College has announced that Kelly Kniebes of Coloma is the first recipient of the Tony and Rose Monte - Monte Package Company Agricultural Scholarship.

Kniebes, a 2005 graduate of Coloma High School, will receive full tuition for two years at Lake Michigan College and full tuition at Michigan State University for two years as she pursues a degree in business and landscape design.

Kniebes states about her education and career plans, "Working at Grapevine Nursery, attending agriculture classes at Countryside Charter School, and working on a farm has helped me realize that a career in agriculture is what I would like to pursue for my life's work. With this scholarship I am now able to attend college to do this with little cost to my family and me."

While at Coloma High School, Kniebes was a member of the National Honor Society, editor of the school newspaper, student council president, and section leader for Varsity Singers. She earned a 3.859 grade point average. She has begun full-time classes this fall at the College's Napier Avenue Campus in Benton Township.

Established by Sam and Connie Monte and Monte Package Company of Riverside, Michigan, through the Lake Michigan College Foundation, The Tony and Rose Monte-Monte Package Company Agricultural Scholarship allows "Monte Scholars" to begin their education at Lake Michigan College and continue their pursuit of their bachelor's degree in an agricultural-related major of their choosing at Michigan State University.
