Lake Michigan College Athletes Move on to Four-Year
Colleges
BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI - Ten Lake Michigan College
athletes are moving on to play intercollegiate athletics at
four-year colleges and universities.
"We are very proud of these student-athletes
who have utilized their Lake Michigan College experience to
propel them to a higher level," stated LMC Athletic Director
Doug Schaffer. "The success of these young men and women
demonstrates how important community college recruiting is to
four year athletic programs at every level."
Men's Basketball
Courtney Blackmore, of Benton Harbor and Coloma High
School- full basketball scholarship to Ferris State University
(NCAA Div. II)
Dannie Parker, of South Bend and Clay High School - full
basketball scholarship to Concord University, West Virginia
(NCAA Div. II)
Louis Rome, Benton Harbor and Walker High School, Louisiana
- full basketball scholarship to West Virginia Tech (NAIA Div.
II)
Farrid Coleman, Benton Harbor and Coloma High School
- Will play Basketball at MacMurray College, Illinois (NCAA
Div. III)
Isley West, South Haven and South Haven High School -
(2003-05 student-athlete) - Continued at LMC and finished associate's
degree in 2005-06. Received partial basketball scholarship and
an academic scholarship to Indiana University, South Bend (NAIA
Div. II) for 2006-07.
Women's Basketball
Peggy Keiper, of Stalwart, Michigan and Pickford High
School - Academic scholarship and will play basketball at Tri-State
University, IN (NCAA Div. III)
Baseball
Duane Below, of Britton, Michigan and Britton Macon High
School - full baseball scholarship to Central Michigan University
(NCAA Div. I) - However, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers
in the 19th round of the June Major League Baseball Draft and
signed a contract to play professional baseball. The Tigers
will pay for his last two years of college as part of his compensation
package.
Richie Burling, Dowagiac and Dowagiac High School - will
play Baseball at Hope College (NCAA Div. III)
Brandon Haveman, of Zeeland and Zeeland High School -
full baseball scholarship to Purdue University (NCAA Div. I)
Brock Doud, Portage and Portage Northern High School
- will play Baseball at Hope College (NCAA Div. III)
Lake Michigan College is a member of the National
Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA),Region XII and the
Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). The
College's intercollegiate athletic program includes women's
volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's baseball, and
