UPWARD BOUND SERVICES:
Tutoring/Homework Help
During the academic year, Upward Bound scholars receive weekly
tutoring/homework help. Services are provided on the Lake Michigan
College campus in classroom settings. Scholars are required to
attend one, two-hour session of tutoring a week, to be arranged
with the Academic Programs
Counselor. If a scholar's grade drops to a "C" or
below, the student will need to attend extra tutoring sessions,
as arranged between the Upward
Bound Staff and the scholar, until his or her grade rises
above a "C" again.
Tutoring sessions are held in the following subjects, using the
ACT retired tests as the text for study:
Mathematics
English Composition/Literature
English Foundations
Reading
Homework help follows tutoring sessions. Scholars are required
to bring all materials (including textbooks, study guides, handouts,
past tests/quizzes, syllabi, project sheets, etc.) to tutoring/homework
help sessions.
Academic Prescriptions
In addition to tutoring and homework help, the Upward Bound Staff
meets to discuss scholar progress, both in school and in tutoring.
From these meetings, Staff create Academic Prescriptions for each
scholar. These prescriptions let parents/guardians and scholars
know where the scholar's strengths and weaknesses lie and what
both the parent and the scholar can do to improve upon strengths
and overcome weaknesses.
