UPWARD BOUND SERVICES:
Tutoring in Academic Subjects
During the academic year, Upward Bound students receive weekly
tutoring. Tutoring services are provided on the Lake Michigan
College campus in classroom settings. Students are required to
attend one, two-hour session of tutoring a week, to be arranged
with the Academic Programs
Counselor. If a student's grade drops to a "C" or
below, the student will need to attend extra tutoring sessions,
as arranged between the Upward
Bound Staff and the student, until his or her grade rises
above a "C" again.
Tutoring sessions are held in the following subjects:
Mathematics
English Composition/Literature
English Foundations
Reading
Homework help is also available. Contact the Upward
Bound Staff to arrange an appointment.
Academic Prescriptions
In addition to tutoring and homework help, the Upward Bound Staff
meets to discuss student progress, both in school and in tutoring.
From these meetings, Staff create Academic Prescriptions for each
student. These prescriptions let parents/guardians and students
know where the student's strengths and weaknesses lie and what
both the parent and the student can do to improve upon strengths
and overcome weaknesses.
