UPWARD BOUND
The Upward Bound Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education,
assists low-income, first generation college students enrolled
in Benton Harbor High School with the skills and motivation necessary
to complete high school and graduate from a post-secondary institution
with a bachelor's degree.
The program provides:
- nine months of educational and social/cultural activities
- counseling
- a six-week summer academy
- visits to college and university campuses
- visits to local businesses through job shadowing/career work
study opportunies
The program has two components: (1) Academic Year and (2) Summer
Academic Institute. Program paraticipants are required to attend
both components each year -- until graduation from high school.
