Sewing and the Fab Lab
United States
Learn some sewing tips and tricks with this basic introductory class to the Fab Lab sewing machines. The Fab Lab at Lake Michigan College has four sewing machines, a regular sewing machine, a serger, a walking foot and a CNC embroidery machine. This introductory class will cover the basics of each of the machines. Demonstrations will be provided for each so you can understand the capabilities of each machine.
Our laser cutters also have the ability to cut fabric in various shapes and designs, so we can demonstrate that as well. This class will be mostly demonstration with some hands on activities.
The Fab Lab at Lake Michigan College is an open access digital fabrication studio and collaborative workshop. We provide access to information, tools, software and space for anyone who has an interest to learn and create. The Fab Lab provides open access to design software, laser cutters, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, mini-lathes, woodshop, CNC router (ShopBot) and hand tools. For more information about the Fab Lab including educational resources, detailed equipment list, materials and suppliers refer to our LMC Fab Lab Manual
