Aug 22, 2017
Open auditions to be held Tuesday, September 12 and Wednesday, September 13 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. in The Hanson Theatre in The Mendel Center of the Benton Harbor campus.

BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – The Lake Michigan College performing arts department will hold open auditions for its fall production of “Airline Highway.” Auditions will be held Tuesday, September 12 and Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in The Hanson Theatre in The Mendel Center, located at the college’s Benton Harbor campus.

Paul Mow will direct the production and the cast will be comprised of a diverse group of five men and five women. “Airline Highway,” a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award winning dark comedy by Lisa D’Amour, is a soulful production that looks into the lives of the “real” New Orleans and its residents. Set in a parking lot of the Hummingbird Hotel off the city’s titular highway, the hotel’s residents gather to celebrate the life of Miss Ruby, a burlesque queen who has been a mother figure to them all. As the Mardi Gras-esque celebration continues into the night, the stories of the residents, their pain and disappointments unfold, painting a compassionate but unvarnished portrait of the underclass of New Orleans.

The play contains strong language and adult themes. Auditioners should be prepared to read sides for different characters and prepare their own monologues in advance.  Rehearsals will be Sunday through Thursday evenings from approximately 6-9:30 p.m., but not all will be called every evening. Those with questions may contact Mow at pmtenor@gmail.com.

Performances are mandatory and will be held Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 19 at 3 p.m. in The Hanson Theatre in The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College, 2755 East Napier Avenue, Benton Harbor, MI 49022.

Airline Highway is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. New York.
