LMC recognized for providing gold-level services to veterans

Lake Michigan College has been designated a gold-level Veteran Friendly School by the Michigan Veterans’ Affairs Agency for the second year in a row.

Gold-level status is awarded to colleges that demonstrate exemplary service to veterans and their dependents. LMC offers specialized academic advising, career services and priority class registration to veterans. Students have access to a full-time veteran specialist, and may receive college credit for military experience.

The Liberty Hall Veterans’ Lounge on LMC’s Benton Harbor campus is open only to veterans and features a study area with computers and a printer, a television and a kitchenette.

Financial assistance is available at LMC to veterans and their dependents through a Veterans Education Assistance Fund sponsored by American Electric Power and the Cook Nuclear Plant.

“We are especially honored to provide training and education to the men and women who’ve served our country, and to their family members who depend on them. Our student veterans enrich the LMC experience for all who work and study on our campuses, and our local employers recognize the potential of our graduates who bring military experience and academic achievement. We hope this award demonstrates how much they are welcome and appreciated at LMC, and how committed we are to helping them succeed,” said Vice President of Student Engagement and Support Barbara Craig.

Lake Michigan College had 154 veterans, active military reservists and Chapter 35 dependents enrolled for the fall 2017 semester.
