Laser Cutting and Engraving – Introduction

Laser- IntroLearn laser cutting basics, safety and applications. This introductory course will cover laser cutting, engraving and Illustrator settings to get you running a laser in just a few hours! 
No prior software or training required. 

Age: 8-15 allowed with a parent or guardian registered and attending the class, 16-17 allowed with parent or guardian signature.

This course is free for current members, please email the Fab Lab at fablab@lakemichigancollege.edu to register. Current members who have completed this course are able to reserve the lasers during open lab hours.

3D Printing – Introduction

3D Printing IntroLearn 3D printing basics, machine setup and software to get you up and printing! This class focuses on the method of 3D printing and will use open source 3D designs to have you hands on and printing with no prior experience. It’s a great introduction to learn about 3D printing and better understand how your prototypes and 3D models can be created one layer at a time. 

No prior software or training required. 

Age: 8-15 allowed with a parent or guardian registered and attending the class, 16-17 allowed with parent or guardian signature.

Fab Lab Bootcamp

bootcamp-imageThis workshop is a sampler of the Fab Lab equipment to get you hands on with the 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, Vinyl Cutter and CNC ShopBot all in one day! Participants will be assisted to create something on each piece of equipment, be provided with a safety overview and leave with a basic understanding of machine use and applications. 

Fab Lab Bootcamp is a great way to get comfortable in the Fab Lab and see if you’d like to sign up and learn more about a particular piece of equipment.

No prior software or training required.

Vinyl Cutting- Introduction

Vinyl- IntroLearn vinyl cutting basics, safety and applications. This introductory course will cover machine operations and software settings to get you up and cutting in just a few hours! 

No prior software or training required.

ShopBot CNC – Introduction

ShopBot- IntroLearn ShopBot CNC basics, safety and applications. This introductory course will cover machine operations and software to get you running a CNC in just a few hours. This is a hands on class, please wear appropriate shop clothing and closed toed shoes to participate. Safety protection will be provided. 

No prior software or training required. 

Age: 8-17 allowed with a parent or guardian registered and attending the class.

Wine Bottle Herb Garden Workshop

Build your own herb garden.  In this workshop, you’ll convert a wine bottle into an herb planter of your choice. Each bottle is $9, which includes the bottle, soil, herb of choice, laser etching of herb name and all materials to assemble your new herb planter. Each planter takes about 10 minutes to make. Participants are welcome to come anytime between the workshop hours.

Pick from the herbs listed on the registration page and enter the quantity of bottles for each herb that you would like to make. 

Registration will close 48 hours before day of workshop so we can purchase the right amount of herbs.  These make great gifts, just in time for Mother's Day!

Laser Cut Jewelry

Laser Cut JewelryIn this workshop participants will laser cut and etch their own wooden jewelry. Basic laser safety and use will be covered in this workshop in addition to guided Adobe Illustrator designing to customize or edit designs.

No prior software or training required.
