2755 East Napier Avenue

Mon, July 23 to Thurs, July 26, 2018

1:30 PM – 4:30 PM EDT

A week long summer camp to keep the kids and ADULTS busy (and learning) during the Summer months! Minimum age is 8, with a maximum age of 108 for this camp. Ok, there's no actual maximum age. Everyone is welcome for this camp. Come in out of the heat of the day and use digital fabrication to make some unique items in the Fab Lab. Join instructor Tom Hurst and he teaches the participants all about wood turning and wood working.

This week-long camp will meet Monday through Thursday and teach the participants how to use various machines in the Fab Lab, including the ShopBot, lasers, mini-lathes and more! Activates include wood turning, wood working, laser engraving and cutting, CNC Cut outs and drawing, 3D printing, vinyl sticker creation and polymer clay. Projects will be designed to incorporate the activities previously mentioned.

Camp will meet every day from 1:30pm-4:30pm to beat the heat of the summer. Open lab time will immediately follow the camp, so participants will have the option to stay if they would like to work on other projects in the Fab Lab (charges may apply for 3D printing and other items that are not included in this camp).

The Fab Lab is a place where students can build science, technology, engineering and math skills through hands on learning. Participating in Fab Lab activities allow students to explore and experiment with digital fabrication technology including 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, and Vinyl Cutters. Our camps are designed for the participants to learn to come up with problem solving techniques and "make things". Sometimes, this involves failing, returning to the original concept and trying again. We want to create an environment of trying, re-thinking the process, and trying again to make the design better. We believe this approach encourages creative thinking and determination in addition to exposing them to new technologies.

Registration for this camp closes one week prior to allow time to purchase required materials. Registration is limited to the first 12 participants. Projects are subject to change based on material availability. Once registered, you'll receive an email asking for the participant(s) name, age, and gender for our instructor's roster. If you have questions, please email them to fablab@lakemichigancollege.edu

Tickets are $135 and available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fab-lab-woodworking-camp-summer-week-create-tickets-45253908659
