Woodworking with Jim- Build Your Own End Table
2755 East Napier Avenue
49022 MI
United States
Our first of many series of "Woodworking with Jim". Jim has been a woodworker for our forty years. During that time he has created many items for his own use and on consignment for his customers. Projects completed range from small keepsake boxes and wooden bowls to king size beds and dressers. He has instructed woodworking classes to home school students for over ten years and to adults by volunteering his time through Sarett Nature Center. He is 71 years old and a life-long resident of Southwestern Michigan now living in St. Joe. He has a passion for the outdoors, and that has coupled with his love of woodworking to learn more about different species of wood and where and how they grow.
During this three day workshop, you will build this beautiful end table from solid cherry wood. In addition to having this fine piece of furniture that you can be proud to use in your home, you will learn some great woodworking skills like how to taper legs, true mortise and tenon joinery, methods of allowing for wood movement and wood finishing techniques. Tools and machines that you will use to complete this project include: table saw, hand-held router, router table, drill, hand plane, and a shop made jig for tapering legs. And as a bonus you will use the Fab Lab laser engraver to sign your work.
Class will be held on three Wednesdays, October 3, 10, and 24. You will need to attend each of the class sessions to finish this project completely. Class is open to adults and children over the age of 11. All materials are included in this workshop.
